To Anatalya Sept 19

The Silk Road stop Sept 19

We boarded the bus early and were off to southern Turkey. This day was our turn to sit behind the driver. Not sure now if that is a treat or a punishment but the expansive windshield certainly made for great viewing. We could see air balloons across the landscape as we were driving off. Some of our group had done it the day before and enjoyed seeing the 'view from above'.

As we drive along Zeya gives us lots of information on lots of subjects. He definitely is well educated and well versed in a variety of subjects. It has been wonderful to have him as our guide.

We stopped at the best preserved caravan resting place for the silk road trade. That means we also walked a bit on the 'silk road'. The enclosure was wonderfully set up for the travellers. They paid for their food and bath but otherwise were not charged to stay there. Their goods were documented so that no stealing would happen. They generally slept in the open area but the animals were kept in a large area to the rear where they were cared for and given medical help if necessary. There was a little prayer chapel in the center.

  1. Wow - it seems you've seen so much already, but I just looked at a map of Turkey and there's SO much more to see! I had no idea the country was so big!
