To Anatolya, Sept 19
Shortly we turned south and headed into the foothills. Many herd of sheep along the way, and always with a shepherd or two. That's because there are no fences. We only saw a few fences in the cities where people want to define and decorate their yards.
Not long after that we were into very rocky mountainous country. The hills had lots of pine and lebanon cedar trees along the way. It was a 2 hour drive through the Toros mountain. It rained a little as we dropped toward the sea.
We drove for about 45 minutes once we were parallel to the Mediterranean Sea to make our way to Anatalya, our stop. We drove through a torrential rain, even a little hail, but it had passed by the time we reached the hotel.
It is a very nice seaside city of 900,000 people. We are a block off the beach.
After supper a group of 8 of us went for a walk along the beach. It was dark so we chose to walk along a pretty parkway. Many flowers, cafes, statues and not many people. A tram came along so we boarded and had a ride toward city center. It was fun but once off we decided to walk back to the hotel rather than do a return ride.
i just checked out the city on google earth - wow!! such a beautiful bay & the fortress... lovely - how long do you get to stay?
ReplyDeleteDid seeing the ocean again make you all want to jump right back into a sailboat? I bet Dave had a twinge at least! Looks like a really pretty area.
