Dog Days of Summer

Well, it seems like the dog days of summer.

Speaking of dogs, if you've been to any place we've been to in Mexico you know there is a plethora of dogs. They seem docile, bedraggled, and are often mangey looking.
They sleep on the streets, you walk around them. They are very quiet and seldom bother to even look up.

In Puerto Escondido we find that they look more well fed and seem to have more breeds. We have seen everything from a black spotted Great Dane (massive), to some Weimeraners (sp?), all the way down to Mexican Chihuahuas. Still, none of them make me want to cuddle them!!

We seem to spend a lot of time walking to the grocery store or the beaches. I guess that is life here.
For 3 days we basically stayed home to try and get some relief from the night coughing. I think our bodies appreciated the break. It was hard for Jim to stay confined, in fact we did walk to the grocery store just to buy some odds and ends. It ended up being a big enough load to carry home! A challenged in our weakened condition. Ha ha.

Wednesday was time to get back to the beach. We really like Playa Carrizalillo so we hiked over there again. Now that we know there is a strip mall very near we can stop at Carmen's cafe for a wonderful coffee and fresh baking. Very nice! Inside and out is decorated with colourful tiles. Somehow it all works!

The bright chairs are from a chocolate shop in the strip mall. A wonderful look of rubbery plastic hose on black wrought iron. I really liked the style.

We made the 170 steps down to the beach, played in the surf, watched people, ate and drank, found some beach combing minature treasures, and dragged ourselves home at the end of the day. We caught a taxi at the strip mall and a few minutes later we were at our door. It costs $2.50 Cdn for almost any taxi ride around town. Nice. Once we know the bus schedule we can pay about 30 cents for the same ride!

The sunsets here have been amazing. I know.... sunsets are supposed to be. We are surprised to see how long they last.

Last night we watched and watched, it took at least an hour with variations on the theme. Immediately that darkness is here the lighthouse begins it signal, 1 on, 1 off, 1 on, and 6 off.

  1. Dad looks so happy with that big icy drink in front of him. Hope you're both feeling better soon.
