My brother, Clay, gave us a book entitled 'Younger Next Year' by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge, M.D. It is the latest and greatest of medical information on how to actually turn back the biological clock and live strong!
Basic premise is that we need to exercise more (no kidding!!!). We haven't read all the book (completed chapter 2) but we have started improving our walking distances. We cover a minimum of 10000 steps a day. Later we will make sure the heart rate stays high for longer periods. The terrain here is very up and down so we have lots of opportunity to challenge ourselves.
I'll give you Harry's rules so that you can jump start your body too.
1, Exercise 6 days a week for the rest of your life.
2. Do serious aerobic exercise 4 days a week for the rest of your life.
3. Do serious strength training, with weights, 2 days a week for the rest of your life.
4. Spend less than you make.
5. Quit eating crap!
6. Care (about something or someone).
7. Connect and commit.
Thanks Clay and Jan, it already seems like a worthwhile endeavour.
even more important? a daily multi-vitamin - just ask david suzuki!
