Zicatela Beach keeps calling us back. This day we are determined to walk to the far end (and beyond!!) The beach ends with a rocky headland and once we arrived we tucked into the shade for a while. It was fun to explore and the variety of rocks hold an appeal for us too. Some are still craggy, others are worn smooth and colourful by the endless wave action. We watched many surfers enjoying the surf.
On our way down the beach we met the couple from Montreal who were on our Lagoon tour. Very nice and friendly, they were heading in the opposite direction for their long walk of the day.
We also chatted with an older couple who informed us they were from Madrid. They have travelled quite a bit and she absolutely loves Vancouver, BC which they've visited 3 times. They told us where to buy fresh fish and other seafoods. We shall try and then I can cook it at our place.
We climbed the rocky headland and down the other side into a secluded rock walled paradise. We felt like we were now on our own private beach. Except for a few surfers who came through to find the best waves, we were alone.
As I'm walking along, discovering the beach I came to 3 very large pieces of driftwood. First I've seen in all our beach walks. Then I looked up and forward and there is a new beautiful beach just beyond where we're standing. It calls us on!
Of course it is now high noon and time for us to find more shade.
I found a path and we climbed upward. We could see thatched rooves(okay, roofs,)so we hoped to find access back to the highway and perhaps a taxi back to our hotel. At first we came upon a very nice restaurant setting - complete with swimming pool. It was clean but totally unused at that time of the day. We found a cobblestone path which took us back through more nice houses with thatched rooves, none of them seemed to be used. We kept walking, found a cobblestone road that a vehicle could use and thought that looked promising for an exit. Shortly, a nicely dressed security guard met us and told us that this was private property. We apologized and told him that we were looking for the highway where we hoped to get a taxi. He kindly showed us the path to use and walked with us to the very edge of the properties, pointing out iguanas as we walked, and then we went down a little stairway and were back on Zicatela beach. We thanked him for his help and he very kindly let us know it was not a problem (probably his only interesting event in the day!). He said the places were all private, no rental, and we think they are vacant. Strange setup.
So back on the beach. Soon we spot a cafe where we stop for drinks and shared a quesadilla. It is still hard to leave here as the 180 degree view is spectacular and we are sitting under the comfortable shade of a palapa. The temperature is perfect, but when we're in the full sun it seems very hot. Muy calor.
Finally we begin our walk toward town in a bit of shade near some commercial buildings. It is not too long before we hail a taxi and we are grateful to have him drive us right to our door.
Time for a shower and siesta.
