Beach Day

Thurs. Feb 9 Friday, Beach Day
I took my computer back to the fix it shop because I find the touch pad gets really hot and I don't think it should. They said it was made to take that heat but if I was interested in an extra cooling fan help I could buy a cooling pad which plugs into a usb port and runs three fans to help keep the notebook cool. We thought that would be a good plan so bought a brand new one for $21. cdn. Happy with the deal!

We had a beautiful ballerina seed dance across our deck floor. The seed was the size of a watermelon seed and its beautiful airy tutu lifted it easily and lifted it on its way.

Manzinillo Beach lured us back for Friday. We walked there shortly after breakfast. The only way in is down a long flight of rock and cement stairs and once at the bottom we were greeted by each cafe owner, offered a chaise or lawn chair and invited to make it 'ours'. We chose our station about halfway along the beach and set up under the shade of a couple of umbrellas. We had a great view of the beach and all the activity that goes on there.

Whales were active straight out from where we sat. There sure seem to be lots around here right now.

Boats (pangas) come and go frequently, picking up tourists or fishermen - or dropping them off. Today we saw one happy fisherman with a nice durado and a sailfish. I don't know how long he'd been out but his family was with him and they were happy with the results.

The pangas seem to be managed with great ease on the water. It makes us a bit nervous because there are always swimmers around but the captain must have a good feel for the capabilities of his vessel.

I finally was able to try my snorkel and mask. I couldn't get the mask to fit just right so it wasn't very satisfactory. I did see a puffer fish right below us on my first try! The surf tossed me around while I tried to adjust the goggles and in the end I gave up. I'll try again another day. It is definitely the best beach for our kind of paddling around, no big waves.
Late in the afternoon we gathered our belongings. Our French Cdn friends had recommended a certain restaurant vendor so we stopped there and ordered a snapper (veracruzan style) and what a plate of wonderful food it was. So glad we only ordered one plate! We still had leftovers. The fish is cooked whole, lettuce, tomato and papaya make the salad, it also has rice and french fries to fill the plate. We also had warm tortillas and a bowl of freshly deep fried tortillas. A glass of wine would have been nice but we stuck with a beer for Jim and an orange pop for me.
After that it wasn't too hard to climb up to the roadway, walk a few blocks, walk up the hill to our apartment, and climb more stairs to our room.

We drop our bags, plod on into the bathroom and begin the showers. Once again I realize how being tossed along the sandy shore can fill the bathing suit with enough sand to start your own sandbox. Nor does it just shower off, every square inch has to be washed with soap in order to lift it off the skin!! A job! hah.

It was good to have a quiet evening at home.
