Zakinthos town Aug 23.

We sailed into Zakinthos town and stern tied again. In a few minutes a British couple came by and told us that a huge tour boat comes in right there and they wouldn't be happy with where we tied up. So we moved.

Once settled, we went to shore and started to explore. What an lovely place this is. It was totally razed in 1953 by a massive earthquake but have rebuilt in the same Venetian style and tried to replicate it all. Only one beautiful church remained standing and we were thrilled to be able to walk through it last night.

Yesterday happened to be a saint celebration day so we saw a procession (5 good sounding bands, a men's vocal chorus, kids clubs, and probably 60 priests in their various robes and a silver coffin containing the bones of saint Dionysias. Later we heard a service on the outside steps of the basillica and then wonderful fireworks over the bay.

The streets were crowded with families and tourists and we enjoyed watching it all.
