We have spent far too many days hoping that Jim would get over this unrelenting cough.
At least when we look out the window there are still new sights to behold. For example, the iguana - not very usual within the town limits but we have 2 of them in this yard.
Our landlady kindly gave us her doctor's name and called him to come and see Jim. Poor Jim has just spent too many night coughing and the last couple of nights were the worst. He seemed so fevered too and nothing was helping.
So the doctor came to our place, listened to his lung function and told us that Jim should be in his little clinic bed where he could be watched closely for the next 48 hours.
Apparently he has bronchitis and if he doesn't get it treated right away it could become chronic.
We jumped in the doctor's car and he took us to the clinic - easy walking distance from here. We realized we had walked past it many times but ignored it because the other doctors look after gynocology and maternity. Our doctor is a gp.
The clinic has 4 beds, private rooms with their own bathroom and they put Jim in the end unit - as far from the ladies area as possible.
They quickly got him to take his clothes off, put on a lovely yellow gown and get in bed. Right away a very cute nurse came in and set up a drip line and shortly after brought in 2 large vials of antibiotics which she added to the drip. On top of that she brought another vial which was to help get his fever down.
Now was time for the hooka pipe - or that's what Jim fancied it to be. It is a puffer thing, I think it's like a cool steamer with meds in it, and he will be asked to puff on that ever 4 hours.
We were both so relieved to believe that he was actually going to get some real help and get rid of the cough that we are quite happy about this turn of events.
I left Jim there and went downtown to buy him some kleenex, yogurt and juice. Shortly after I returned to his room a girl brought him his supper. A nice bowl of soup with macaroni in it and 2 cheese tortillas. A drink of fruit juice as well.
He even has a tv in his room so I guess that might help him with his Spanish too.
I left him about 6:30, the doctor had returned to check him again and a nurse will be there all night.
Good thing we opted for travel/medical insurance again this year.
I will see him again in the morning. I think he'll actually sleep better tonight. It seemed like some of the meds were already helping.

Hi Pat
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about Jim. I hope he gets better quickly, he looks healthy and that is a pretty dress he's wearing. Any pictures of the Mexican nurses?? lol.
I must catch up on your blog. Jan has been telling me about your trip so I haven't read your blog. Haven't been on Facebook much, too busy I guess. A lot of TV time....sleeping etc.
Sorry to hear this about dad but I'm glad you finally broke down and got some help. Hopefully it will clear up soon with the antibiotics! Dad, you are in EXACTLY the same type of bed your sister has been in for the last 4 days. :)
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon. At least you'll be able to enjoy your last month there a little easier if you're getting some sleep and feelign stronger.
Love to you both.
Laurel
P.S. your iguana is now the desktop pic on my computer!

Pretty crummy that he has been working on getting rid of that all this time. Glad to hear that he is getting such good treatment though! He might actually get more care down there hey? Hopefully he will be able to kick it now and start fresh. I have to say his supper looks a lot better that what they served in the hospital here! ~jen
ReplyDeleteyes that yellow does look lovely with his nice tan... so glad - he finally got some help & fingers crossed that is does NOT become chronic!
ReplyDeletebtw - that's the cutest little medical clinic ever...
That is an awesome picture of the lizard he looks pretty devious. That Jesus picture above grandpa in his sick bed is looking pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteHa - I never clicked on the iguana pic before. He definitely looks devious. LOL
ReplyDeleteDid one of the nurses bring dad the orchids?
It will be nice to see you out of that yellow dress Jim. Good to hear you are feeling better.
