The words run on...

What an excellent flight with KLM.
We were out on the Vancouver runway at 6:45pm and above the clouds shortly after. It was great to have the sun shine through the window and take the Vancouver chill off my shoulder.

We never did see the sun set. As evening came to the west it was beginning daylight in the east. Eventually we had to pull the blinds so we could try to get a few hours of shuteye.

The staff aboard our KLM flight were extremely nice. They acted like they had lots of time to chat, our experience has been that they rush to and fro and look so overworked.

The cabin was spacious. There were 3 rows of 3 seats and 2 aisles. The plane could hold approx 360 people but only about 300 were on board. It was an MD11.

Everything was free; drinks, ear phones, movie selections, etc.

We flew from Vancouver, over Lilloet, Jasper, Hudsons Bay and eventually snowy Greenland, then back down over Shetland Isles (above Scotland) and into Amsterdam.

We flew 12200 kilometers, at 12000 metres altitude, 800 to 900 km/h. The outside temperature was -50C. Very nice to have a pillow and blanket inside.

It is raining today in Amsterdam so we feel like we are in Vancouver. We will just sit in the airport and wait for our flight to Athens.

We caught the connecting flight and arrived in Athens just after midnight.

I'm so glad you've already done a post! It's good to hear your flights went well and youve arrived safely. Now you just need your captain to arrive. Enjoy - can't wait to hear more.

  2. Hi Mom - you will have gotten a bunch of emails, no doubt, and be wondering where all your comments are. I was annoyed that you are getting spammed already, so I went in and deleted the spam comment. And I deleted the test one I did so I could tell Sharron how to post a comment. And then I noticed that my comment was GIBBERISH and deleted it to. :)

So, that said, THANKS for posting so soon! Dad looks pretty well rested, all things considered, and it sounds like it was smooth flying. We look forward to hearing about the smooth sailing as well.

    LOVE YOU!
