Our Fears Revealed.
We sat around the dinner table one evening and confessed to each other our fears about this trip.
Pat was worried that the seas would be filled with other boaters and we'd have to be on constant alert to keep out of their way. We've hardly seen other boats and Naxos is the first marina where we haven't been able to use the dock because it is full.We anchored one night and then moved to the quay next morning. That happened again at Hydra for one night.
Jim was worried about the winds (Meltimis). He thought they would be too strong for sailing – and that has proved to be true in the north and central Aegean region.Once we get away from the strongish winds it levelled out for us.Often it's either too windy or we don't have enough wind and so we keep using the engine to move from island to island.
Marg was worried that she would be too hot. There were times when that came close to true but usually with the winds we've always had some relief. In the shade it is tolerable. Even at night it has usually been so warm that a sheet cover was more than enough – and that's with our window/hatch cover wide open.
Dave's worry was about having enough water aboard so that we could shower often (after swimming several times a day). Well, so far we swim less than once a day and we have plenty of water for the 4 of us. Either that or we're dirty people! We drink bottled water but otherwise use the boat water for all our needs. (The toilets are flushed with sea water.)
So, as someone said, Nothing to fear but fear itself.
We received your e-mail today saying you hadn't heard from us. I have sent at least 2 comments, so unsure why you can't read them. Will try again. Loving your journal so keep them coming. keep safe. Sharron
ReplyDeleteNice pictures. Dad, you're looking kinda more brownish than reddish - what's with that. Keep that head covered!
ReplyDeleteI hope whatever you fear on your next leg of the adventure turns to naught too.
