I gardened today. I think one can say that, even if it only means I pulled weeds for several hours. The sun was shining, a fresh breeze was blowing, and it was a perfect day to be working outside.
Marg told me that she was going to work in her yard so I showed up, garden gloves in hand, and we spent a number of hours getting their yard back into some semblance of a cared for yard.
Why do I think that's fun?
I remember my parents appreciating the flowers and vegetables in their yard. Even in Kelowna I remember how much mom loved her beautiful rose plant against our front stairway. We always had flowers and plenty of fresh vegetables.
I remember when they planted 3 trees across our front lawn. One for Stan, one for Cliffy (who had drowned the previous year) and one for me.
When we moved to Quesnel we had a huge vegetable garden. One of my favourite gardening memories there is dad and me in the garden, planting potatoes. He would dig the hole and I would place the of potato securely at the bottom of the hole. I remember we chatted about stuff as we worked, it was nice.
We lived on a one acre lot so I had a lot of freedom for creating my own flower gardens. I discovered some forget me nots blooming on a little plot by the driveway. I was a happy discovery and I busily cleared the area so they would be free to grow.
After our kids were born we always tried to have a garden - at least for veggies. Even in Willow Flats we grew awesome veggies and it was a pleasure to me.
My few potted plants are all thriving on my patio so I was looking for more challenge. I found, and enjoyed it, today.
Hoe, hoe, hoe.

I'd forgotten how much Gram liked to garden - usually in her little house frocks. It seems such a shame I live in a gardener's paradise and don't have a single veg growing ... maybe I'll plant some lettuce in a pot on my patio table. Mmmm - fresh lettuce!
ReplyDeleteGreat, and it's gluten free!!
ReplyDeletei remember the massive rhubarb @ willow flats - but even more - the acre (seemingly) garden down by the river @ the farm... as much as we hated weeding - none of us can walk by a flowe pot without deadheading or pulling a weed out...
