Jim and I drove north of Courtney today and out near the ocean. Our destination was the Kitty Coleman Rhodo Park.
It was a beautiful day, nice and sunny and not too hot.
We found our way to a rustic building behind the entrance gate. We entered and noticed a gallon jar on the desk and a sign which asked us to put our $8. entrance fee in the jar and then enjoy the garden.
We picked up a map and started on a cedar chipped trail. The area covers 4 acres and they have over 3000 rhododendrons. We were in the first flush, there will be several more weeks of beautiful displays and we hope to go back to see more.
Most of the flowers were so very gorgeous. The colours started at very white and went to the deepest purples and reds. I think the blossom sizes were from one inch to almost 5 inches. Some of the clusters were massive, one would have made a gorgeous bridal bouquet.
We walked the almost the total length of the garden. It took us over a cliff, down a stairway, through a fern grove, around a lake, pond, stream, and tadpole pool.
It was a lovely day, basically in our own backdoor.
