Zakinthos town, day 2 Aug 25

Zakinthos town, day 2 August 25

When we first woke we thought we'd find a marine store, grocery store, cafe that was recommended in Lonely Planet and then leave. Once on the go we wondered why we were in such a hurry, we like this town. So we slowed down our plans, walked around town for 4 hours, never found our cafe destination but found another lovely cafe which was just fine for us.

By the time we were back to the boat and stowed the groceries we decided we'd better have some relax time. So we're paying again for tonight and will enjoy an evening in town.

It's exciting to see clouds in the sky, it's hardly happened this whole trip, one rain sprinkle as I recall. It would be fun to have a rain but it's possible this will blow right over and land on the mainland.,, it did.

Jim and I did a few chores on board and then walked to the town square. It is close by. As we entered we realized we were actually walking by a Communist rally. Jim said he could understand the guy yelling about Americans and Dios (God) so we just kept walking. There were about 60 people standing there.

The square had various stalls with items for sale and as we walked along the streetswe saw they were closed so that more stall could open and all the stores and restaurants were still open too. We walked into a shop where they were making their delicious candy. The gal offered us a big gob so after that we felt we had to buy some. You can see in the picture just how sanitary the operation is!!

We walked for some time again and then came back to the square where we sat to have a drink. At the adjoining cafe I noticed 3 men singing. One played a guitar, one a bazouki, and one just sang harmony. I wished we could have been closer to enjoy them. We had 'canned' music at our outside cafe. Still fun to people watch.

  1. Is it just my imagination, or is that shirtless man molding Feta cheese while a woman smokes nearby? Cuz that is certainly ... one way to explain the tangy flavout. LOL

  2. Oops - I had just skimmed the post before. I see now that they are making the day's batch of sweat&smoke fudge. ;-)
